The South of Madagascar – Antananarivo to Toliary

Antananarivo – Antsirabe (1 night) – Ranomafana (2 nights) – Ambalavao (1 night) – Anja Park – Ranohira (2 nights) – Isala National Park – Tulear 1 night)

The South of Mada – Antananarivo to Toliary: day to day
Day 1: Antananarivo
We will meet at the Madagascar International Airport of Ivato and transfer you to the hotel in the center of the city. The “Ile Bourbon” or a similar hotel.
In the afternoon we will visit the king’s Palace on the blue Hill of Ambohimanga and the former Queen’s Palace on the High Hill of the City. After that we can visit the town center and its markets and bazaars with a wide choice of food, herbs and spices, handcrafts and arts.
Day 2: Antsirabe
Early in the morning after the breakfast, we will take Route National nr. 7 by car to Antsirabe. A good road through highlands and beautiful green rice fields.
Along the way we can stop to take photos, buy fruit or crafts and have lunch.
In the evening there is time to walk through the nice town centre or take a “pousse pousse” ride around town and visit a restaurant or bar.
In the morning we can visit a lapidary, or some workshops. Then “en route” to Ranomafana.
Next stop at Ambositra for lunch then discovering the decorated wooden arts of Zafimaniry in the different shops.
In the evening we will arrive in Ranomafana. Refreshing at the Ihary or similar hotel, relax and get ready for a walk in the park to watch the nocturnal animals.
Day 4: Ranomafana
After breakfast, we will start our daytime visit to this beautiful humid tropical forest and admire lemurs, chameleons, birds and insects. The golden bamboo lemur is the main attraction of this park. Around noon we will have a picnic lunch in the Park.
Night at the Ihary or similar hotel
Day 5: Ambalavao
Early morning departure for Ambalavao, the romantic little town known for it’s traditional paper manufacturing and crafts.
We will stop for lunch in Fianarantsoa.
In the afternoon we will visit some vineyards, a wine cellar and a workshop to taste the wines of Madagascar.
We will spend the night in Ambalavao at the Bougainvillier Hotel.
Day 6: Ranohira
In the morning, departure to the Anja park (visit will take about 2 hours). Lunch at Ihosy and then continue towards the southern doorway of Madagascar and crossing the plateau of Horombe. In the evening we will arrive at Ranohira and we’ll check in for a 2 nights stay at the hotel.
Visit to the museum and “Isalo-window”.
Day 7: Ranohira
In the early morning, breakfast at the hotel and after that an excursion on foot with picnic lunch in the National Park of Isalo.
Isalo National Park is renowned for its typical lunar sceneries and canyons. After lunch we can take a refreshing bath in the beautiful and famous natural swimming pool.
Day 8: Toliary
On the way for Toliary with many car stops to watch the Mahafaly Tombs and the beautiful changing landscape.
Our hotel for the night will be ‘Chez Alain’ or a similar hotel.
